Quotes

"The Strain trilogy finds civilization teetering on the brink.... The series stands out from the recent spate of vampire-themed entertainment thanks to its semi-scientific premise, convincing characters and wealth of almost cinematically vivid scenes of terror. This book continues in the same chilling vein. Relentlessly paves the way for what promises to be an epic third book."

- Kirkus Reviews
"Taut pacing and macabre fight scenes.... Scary."

- Booklist
"One of the most thrilling works of vampire fiction to hit the market in quite some time."

- MTV.com
"The big lure.... Plenty of arresting, vividly imagined moments in this page turner.... Good enough to make us break that vow to swear off vampire stories."

- Newsweek
"Just in time for summer.... A visceral page-turner that reimagines vampirism as a virus.... [An] epic battle between good and evil.... Vivid scenes of a New York where something has gone terribly wrong."

- Associated Press
"Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan have crafted a deliciously creepy story that will literally make the hairs on your neck stand up. The Strain is Bram Stoker meets Stephen King meets Michael Crichton. It just doesn't get much better than this."

- Nelson DeMille
"His distinctive creatures and otherwordly parables use the realms of fantasy to explore fundamental human issues such as love, alienation, weakness and, of course, fear.
[He is] a master of monsters."

- USA Today
"He elevated gothic horror to art. . . . Bilingual, bicultural, multigenre, he has a voice that feels both fresh and ancient."

- Entertainment Weekly
"Guillermo del toro is a mad, artistic genius, and his take on vampires crushes the glossy teeny-bopper model that's become so achingly popular.... What matters most is the glorious violent mayhem propelling the book's plot like a cannonball.... Insanely entertaining.... Wildly imaginative."

- Albuquerque Journal
