Quotes

"This book is Lama Surya Das in his most tone-perfect Western guru voice: authoritative, inviting, generous, funny, poetic, imaginative and informative and totally accessible. For newcomers to Buddhism (and non-Buddhists interested in universal wisdom!) and "old hands" at practice, this is a delightful read. It promises nothing less than a liberated life, freed from the angst over the tyranny of time, though the practice of loving presence. The "To Do" sections are remarkable interesting and inspiring."

- Sylvia Boorstein, author of Happiness Is An Inside Job: Practicing for a Joyful Life

Drawing from the broad scope of his poetic, social and scientific interests, as well as the great depth of his Buddhist training, Lama Surya Das offers a wise and sane way to navigate these times. This pragmatic book will be illuminating and helpful for anyone wishing to find the timeless amidst the rush of time."

- Joseph Goldstein, author of One Dharma: The Emerging Western Buddhism and A Heart Full of Peace
"I read Buddha Standard Time during a particularly busy and stressful week and I felt myself calming down as I read. Surya Das expands upon important wisdom from Tibetan Buddhism as well many other spiritual traditions, and shares this wonderful Native American quote, 'Give thanks for unknown blessings already on their way.' This book could be one of those blessings for you."

- Mirabai Bush, Founding Director and Senior Fellow, Center for Contemplative Mind in Society
"A wealth of inspiration and practical tips for enjoying the Kingdom of God, the Pure Land of the Buddha, *now*."

- bestselling author Thich Nhat Hanh
"If you want your future moments to sparkle with ecstatic awareness read this book."

- Ram Dass, author of Be Love Now
"Das, an otherworldly sage, cultivates and activates "time's natural expression" in language that resonates and penetrates wholeheartedly. Each chapter yields wisdom with fresh, focused aptitude. Meditation and mindful intent, ever present, deliver the imminent "now" in each paragraph. "Everything we seek and long for-including joy, holiness, divinity, inner peace, and happiness," he writes, "can be enjoyed in every moment, anytime, anywhere." Das drives the reader through the altering speeds of time, providing a manual for subconscious and unconscious exploration to manipulate and harness the self within time. The concepts of past, present and future fall to the wayside. The author provides countless dichotomies which exhibit the notion that our natural rhythms are at odds with societal structure of time and its constriction. Das renders these conflictions masterfully, demonstrating to the reader easy and practical means of time-control practice. From Siddhartha's transformation into the Buddha, to Gandhi's teachings and legacy, to the unfolding of the Buddha's noble Eightfold path to Enlightenment, the author carefully evokes the power of perception and the creation of space within time and all of its vast infinities. Das weaves together intricacies of living in the moment, sensing inherently the overwhelming power of now. Exhilarating and profound food for the timeless soul."
