Susan Schade lives in Lyme, CT, with her husband, Jon, and their two cats. Susan and Jon met in the summer of 1968 when she was a Cornell University Fine Arts student who was working for the summer as a waitress on Martha’s Vineyard. They traveled across the country but soon returned to the family home in Lyme. Susan worked as a children’s librarian, then in adult reference before retiring from the library in 1997. Jon worked at various jobs until he was able to sell his first books. Susan joined him in the book writing business with The Noisy Counting Book, published in 1987. They have since written and illustrated more than forty books together. Besides writing, Susan is kept busy managing the family-owned property and trying to keep the encroaching forest under control.
